Aireal formed in 1997. Originally formed as B.P.G, the group would change their name to Aireal after only a few months. Aireal would then release a few demos throughout 1998 before running into their first lineup change late that year when frontman Norihisa (のりひさ) and bassist Shuusei (修生) left. They would then soon be respectively replaced by Mizuho (みづほ) and Kana (華音) and in early 1999, Aireal announced it was in the process of recording their first single, "Naikaku Takame Kikenkyuu (内角高めキケン球)", which was set to be released in June of 1999, although before recording was finished, Mizuho left and drummer Yuki (由紀) would then take over for vocal duties with new drummer Kohki and and second guitarist Kёn≠zi joining. In October of 1999, however, Yuki would also leave and was then replaced by female vocalist Myuu (ミュウ) on Valentine's Day 2000. Aireal would then release a few more demos throughout 2000 and later released their first mini-album that September, "Jiccha Geneki Baccha F Cup (Taurine Haigou) (じっちゃ現役ばっちゃFカップ(タウリン配合))", which would be pressed in very limited quantities and would surprisingly sell out. In December of 2000, the group appeared on the "Indies Power 2001" omnibus and also appeared on the "Punishment Party Vol. 2" omnibus in June of 2001. By late 2001, the group had managed to develop a cult following in the visual underground for their quirky sense of humor and in April of 2002, Aireal released their first single "Hatsushujinkoudaa! (初主人公だぁー!)", which would also soon sell out. Shortly after its release, however, Myuu would abruptly abandon the group, leading to her official dismisal in June of 2002. Guitarist Иiro would then become the new vocalist of the group temporarily, before new vocalist Hellga officially joined in 2003. In February of 2003, Aireal released their second single "Kouenkai ni Susume (講演会にススメ)", which was released for one-night only although in March of 2003, Иiro would also leave, and by this point, Aireal would seemingly have constant lineup changes every year, with only Hellga remaining in the lineup. Despite the constant lineup changes, however, Aireal would release a few more live-distributed singles throughout the next few years before changing their name to Aireal USA by 2010. Under this name, the group would release a few more live-distributed singles before changing their name back to Aireal in 2018, and also officially becoming a non-visual group by this point as well. Aireal remains somewhat active today with Hellga being the only member left that hasn't been replaced since 2003, primarily as a touring act.
