Light & Shade formed in 1990. The group went on to release a few demos throughout 1991 and later released their first mini-album in January of 1992, "Trial Product", which had strong sales in the early visual underground. In March of 1992, Light & Shade appeared on the "Emergency Express 1992 ~Surging the Next Crisis~" omnibus and also appeared on the "Operation Z" omnibus that May as well. The group went on to tour throughout the remainder of 1992 regularly, establishing a decent-sized following in the early visual underground, but eventually ended up splitting in 1993. After Light & Shade split, all of the members of the group then retired from the visual scene, with drummer Katsuyuki going on to join several highly obscure underground groups. In 2001, after nearly a decade away, he returned to the visual scene as a member of the group Help under the alias of Yuki although when it also split in 2002, he then became a support member of the indies visual group Piranha, until eventually leaving in the summer of 2002. After he left Piranha, Yuki then retired from the underground music scene in general. In June of 2018, frontman Toru (徹) would tragically pass away from unknown causes. The remaining members of Light & Shade, including Yuki, would then return in June of 2019 to play one more live in the honor of Toru, and afterwards, they would all then seemingly return to their respective retirements.
