"Power Pop Paradise", 1998.
Venus and Mars formed in 1997. In February of 1998, the group released its first mini-album "Power Pop Paradise", which was limited to 1,000 copies. The album impressively soon sold out and in November of 1998, Venus and Mars released their first single "Redpurple", which was their first release to be released across the underground music scene. The single had decent sales and by 1999, the group were managing to establish a strong following in the underground glam circuit as well as the visual underground due to their various crossovers with the scene. In early 1999, however, Venus and Mars had their first lineup change when drummer Dew left. He was soon replaced by Billy, however, and in April of 1999, the group appeared on the largely visual omnibus "Black Market Special", further establishing a solid connection with the visual scene. In January of 2000, Venus and Mars released their second single "Kokoro no Noise (ココロノノイズ)", which would unfortunately have rough sales in the underground music scene. To make matters worse, Billy would end up leaving the group soon after its release and was then replaced by D.B., and in August of 2000, Venus and Mars released their third single "Parasite", which also had poor sales. Presumably due to their heavily declining sales, Venus and Mars would not release any more material throughout the year or 2001, instead focusing on touring extensively, before eventually folding all together in 2002. Frontman Minoru would go on to join the nu metal group Smack Da Booty and also continued his career as a recording engineer, which he first began doing around the beginning of the run of Venus and Mars. However, Smack Da Booty would eventually dissolve by 2006, and afterwards, Minoru would continue a bit as an engineer before retiring from the underground music scene all together by 2007. The guitarist of Venus and Mars, Onochin, went on to join the project Heesey with Dudes, which was the solo project of bassist Heesey, best known for his work with the iconic band The Yellow Monkey. When the Heesey with Dudes project dissolved in 2005, however, Onochin then joined the group Jet Lag Makers, which went on a hiatus in 2010. He then became a support musician for a few artists from all over the musical spectrum and in 2013, Jet Lag Makers resumed activities with Onochin returning as a member. In 2016, however, Jet Lag Makers would dissolve, this time seemingly for good, and Onochin then joined the duo Sen no Kami (千の神), which he remains somewhat active in today. In 2022, after two decades apart, Venus and Mars surprisingly reunited although only as a duo of Minoru and Onochin. As a duo, Venus and Mars would digitally release two more singles and also digitally released their first-ever full length album, "Grab the Victory", in May of 2022. In 2023, however, Venus and Mars would end up disintegrating again, and Minoru would then return to his retirement while Onochin remains active in Sen no Kami today, as well as the supergroup Snoh.
