COME BACK HOME!
Senior lawyer Yusuf Nsibambi has made an emotional public appeal to his former student, Isaac Ssemakadde, urging him to return to Uganda and continue the fight for justice from home.
In a passionate address to fellow lawyers, Nsibambi described Ssemakadde as “a brilliant legal mind” the country cannot afford to lose. He revealed behind-the-scenes efforts to engage the executive and push for the release of over 80 political detainees, stressing that “power belongs to the people” under Uganda’s Constitution.
Nsibambi challenged lawyers to defend the rule of law without fear, criticized electoral malpractice within political parties, and warned against confrontational politics that weakens institutions. He also reflected on his own experience and called for stronger, law-abiding political structures.
“You took a position that is legally acceptable, but maybe politically not acceptable. We need you here. We are ready to stand by you,” Nsibambi declared.
