NYC Walk: Penn Station + Moynihan Train Hall + Farley Post Office

Описание: What a world of a difference! Check out the transition of the Long Island Railroad concourse at Penn Station. The concourse is now brighter and wider with higher ceilings. It was a dark tight space before the renovation and was especially crowded during rush hours. The New Jersey Transit and Amtrak portion of the main Penn Station remain the same. We also visit the newer Moynihan Train Hall.

The newer hall opened roughly two years ago and businesses have moved in. It was built within the complex of the Farley Post Office across the street from the main Penn Station. The Post Office still uses parts of the building but just needs less space. We cover the remaining portion of the post office in this walk. The train hall serves the Long Island Railroad and Amtrak. It serves to make up for the original ornate Penn Station that was destroyed to build an office tower and Madison Square Garden.

The new hall is named after the late New York Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan who was a key figure in moving this project forward.

If Grand Central Terminal seems busy, you can only imagine what Penn Station is like. Penn serves three major railroads while Grand Central only serves one. Also, Long Island Railroad at Penn is the nation's busiest commuter railroad while Metro-North is the second. On top of the Long Island Railroad, there's also Amtrak and New Jersey Transit. Penn Station serves more than 600,000 commuters daily.
