Welcome to my channel! Today, we’re making a rich, soft, and moist Chocolate Truffle Cake from scratch with a silky smooth buttercream frosting.
Whether you're a beginner or a baking pro, this step-by-step recipe will help you create a bakery-style truffle cake that melts in your mouth. No oven? No problem – I’ve got tips for that too!
🧁 Ingredients
For the Cake:
2 large eggs
A pinch of salt
150 g granulated sugar
50 g cocoa powder
250 g all-purpose flour
70 ml vegetable oil (or sunflower oil)
70 ml milk
150 ml hot water
For the Buttercream Frosting:
100 g unsalted butter (softened at room temperature)
50 g powdered sugar
1 bar of chocolate (melted – around 100 g)
150 g cream cheese
👩🍳 Cake Preparation:
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 175°C (347°F).
Grease and line an 8-inch cake pan with parchment paper.
Step 2: Prepare the Batter
1. In a large mixing bowl, crack 2 eggs and add a pinch of salt.
2. Add 150 g granulated sugar and whisk together until the mixture becomes light and slightly fluffy. You can use a hand whisk or electric beater.
3. Sift in 50 g cocoa powder and 250 g flour. Mix gently to avoid lumps.
4. Add 70 ml oil and 70 ml milk, and stir until smooth.
5. Slowly pour in 150 ml hot water, mixing gently to thin out the batter and activate the cocoa. The batter will become runny — that’s perfect for a moist cake.
Step 3: Bake
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan.
Cover the pan with aluminum foil (this helps retain moisture).
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean.
🔸 Tip: Don’t open the oven door in the first 20 minutes to avoid sinking!
Step 4: Cool the Cake
Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool completely on a wire rack before applying frosting.
🍫 Buttercream Frosting Preparation
Step 1: Whip the Base
1. In a bowl, add 100 g softened butter and beat it for 2–3 minutes until light and fluffy.
2. Add 50 g powdered sugar and continue beating until smooth and creamy.
Step 2: Add Chocolate & Cream Cheese
1. Melt 1 bar of chocolate (approx. 100 g) using a double boiler or microwave. Let it cool slightly (not hot!).
2. Add the melted chocolate to the butter mixture and mix well.
3. Add 150 g cream cheese and beat until everything is well combined into a thick, creamy frosting.
Step 3: Chill
Cover the frosting and refrigerate for 1 to 1.5 hours until it firms up a bit for easy spreading.
🎂 Assemble the Cake
1. Once the cake has cooled completely, slice it in half horizontally to create two layers (optional, for more filling).
2. Spread a generous layer of chocolate buttercream between the layers and on top of the cake.
3. Smooth the frosting using a spatula or spoon.
Optional:
Top with chocolate curls, shavings, or a chocolate-dipped cherry for presentation.

Refrigerate the frosted cake for 2 to 3 hours before serving. This allows the buttercream to set and enhances the flavor and texture.
