(Feb.27) The famous geyser in Iceland is no longer active. Geysir, the great and famous, geyser has not erupted since 2016 and is inactive. The Iceland Geysir Center now boast of its new active geyser the Strokkur. This geyser erupts every 5-10 minutes and can shoot boiling water up to 100 ft. When visiting, please do not touch the water because it is boiling hot with temperatures around 80-100°C even during winter. The area wreaks of rotten egg stench due to the constant flow of Hydrogen Sulfide in the air. For those who are on tour, the geysir center is a perfect stop for a bathroom break and some light shopping since the souvenir shop here is expensive. And as a warning, always take care of your belongings and valuables since Iceland has been having trouble with out-of-town thieves visiting Iceland to prey on other tourists.
