The Sawtooth Wilderness, located in the south central potion of Idaho, is undeniably the most beautiful area in all of Idaho. But it's not just "Idaho pretty", the reality is 99% of the US is not as stunningly beautiful as it is in the Sawtooth's. This area can compete with anything in the country. It's uniqueness is defined by it's rocky ecosystem. Barricading the masses from the true interior beauty is miles and miles of jagged spires, mountain peaks and knife-edge ridgelines. Here you will be treated with some of the cleanest air in the US (located within a "dark-sky preserve"), pristine mountain lakes/tarns and views that consistently extend as far as the eye can see. This area is no secret either, it hasn't been so for more than 20 years now, but due to it's relative isolation you still can experience plenty of solitude. I've backpacked through the vast majority of Idaho's best landscapes - nothing is consistently as great as the Sawtooth's.
