Nylon rope, widely used since the 1930s, is strong but highly elastic, which makes it dangerous under heavy strain. When stretched and broken, it releases stored energy violently, causing severe injuries or fatalities—especially if hardware like shackles is attached. While suitable for dock lines or anchor lines, it is strongly discouraged for tow lines or high-tension applications. Despite its popularity, this rope poses significant safety risks due to its extreme stretch and recoil.
