This program was an exploration of the moods of the night – from dusk to the depths of the night to the glimmerings of dawn. It was performed without pause in near-darkness. The heart of the program was Chopin’s magnificent Nocturne in C minor, while the concluding song by Schumann exquisitely captures the sensation between sleeping and awakening – of a soul soaring over a moonlit lake, heading…”home” .

Text Translation:
The night is beautiful - hurry, Nineta,
Let us take to our boat and enjoy the evening breeze.
I have asked the gondolier to remove the canopy
So that we can feel the breeze from the sea;

What bliss it is to exchange sweet nothings
Alone on the lagoon by moonlight,
To be floating in our boat;
You can lay aside your fan
For the breezes will vie with each other to refresh you

And if among these breezes
there should be one so cheeky
As to lift the veil covering your bosom,
Pay no heed to its nonsense, for we are all alone
And the gondolier is much too busy plying his oar
