For children between the ages of 12 and 17 who have had run-ins with the law and committed offenses that warrant more than a mere caution, remand homes become their temporary dwelling. Uganda boasts seven such facilities scattered across different districts. In this new three-part series, MILDRED PEDUN delves into the primary objective of these remand homes: rehabilitation. Before being transferred to the Kampiringisa National Rehabilitation Center, many of these young offenders undergo reformative processes within these homes. In this inaugural segment of our series on remand homes, we venture into these establishments to witness firsthand the experiences of the juveniles.
