The district administration in Kendrapara suddenly stopped the 11-year-old traditional Paika Utsav (celebration honoring the historic Paika warriors and their 1817 rebellion against British rule), prompting more than 100 local men and women to sit on a dharna (sit-in protest) demanding its immediate restoration and highlighting the cultural significance of the event in preserving Odisha's freedom struggle heritage.
