Recovery divers found his body wedged in a crack near the entrance—he had likely panicked when his air ran out, became disoriented, and tried to force himself through what he thought was the exit. Despite his training and certification with NAUI and YMCA, a series of spur-of-the-moment decisions—removing safety equipment, carrying inadequate air, diving without a guideline—created the fatal circumstances that killed him. This is the story of how the desire to explore beyond a restriction cost an experienced diver his life.
