Right now, many doctors, agencies, and testing clinics will tell persons with HIV that they have HIV or that they do not have HIV. In the past, doctors will tell people with HIV they are HIV positive (+). Many people in the Deaf community got confused with this. Many Deaf people will think that HIV positive (+) is good and that they don't have HIV. Deaf people will also think that HIV negative (-) means you have HIV. Really, it means the opposite: HIV positive (+) means you have HIV and HIV negative (-) means you do not have HIV. Now, doctors in most areas will tell you if you have HIV or if you do not have HIV.
