Gonorrhea is a bacterial STI and is curable with antibiotics. Antibiotics are commonly given orally or injected on the butt.
What are the symptoms? Symptoms of gonorrhea may include: unusual yellow, green, or white discharge, pain while going to the bathroom, going to the bathroom often, stomach pain, pain when having sex. Sometimes people do not experience symptoms but have gonorrhea.
How can you get gonorrhea? You can get it through having unprotected sex with someone who has gonorrhea. Even if you do not cum, your genitals still make discharge, so you can get gonorrhea.
Who can get gonorrhea? Anyone can get gonorrhea.
Is gonorrhea treatable? Gonorrhea can be treated with oral antibiotics and potential injection in the butt. When you get treated, your sexual partner(s) should be treated too to prevent getting infected again.
What if I don’t get treated? It is important to follow medical treatments, because if it is left untreated, gonorrhea can be given to other people. It can also cause complications if people do not treat it.
How do I get tested for gonorrhea? You can get tested for gonorrhea by getting an urine sample, swab test of the affected area (vagina, anus, or throat).
NCDHR encourages you to discuss your sexual activity with your doctor or health care provider, because they will let you know how often you need to get tested.
