Getting fit in your late 30s hits different.
I’m turning 39 this year, married with kids, running a business — and finally facing the reality that I didn’t hit all the goals I promised myself in my 30s. One of the biggest? Getting back into shape.
In my early 20s, I was running sub-20 minute 5Ks, marathons, triathlons — bouncing back from bad habits in weeks. Fast forward to today: I’m 30kg heavier, struggling to break a 34-minute 5K, and realizing that fitness after 35 isn’t about shortcuts — it’s about realistic goals, consistency, and patience.
Instead of chasing my 21-year-old self, I’m breaking 2026 into four 90-day seasons:
🏃♂️ First 90 days: Break 30 minutes for 5K
🏃♂️ Second 90 days: Break 25 minutes
🏃♂️ Third 90 days: Push toward 22 minutes
🏃♂️ End of year goal: Chase a sub-20 (or get damn close)
