AMLA RASAM
Nellikai (Amla) Rasam is a cherished family recipe that combines simplicity and nutrition in one bowl.
Perfect for beginners, this rasam is not just easy to make but packed with the goodness of Vitamin C and antioxidants. It’s ideal for sipping as a comforting soup or pairing with hot rice, especially during changing weather when our bodies crave a health boost.
Ingredients:
4-5 Nellikai (Indian gooseberries/Amla)
2 medium-sized tomato, roughly chopped
2 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp black peppercorns
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp Kashmiri Red Chilli powder
2 Green Chillies, slit
2 dry red chillies
2 cups water (adjust consistency as desired)
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
1/2 - 1 tsp Jaggery powder
Curry leaves
Salt to taste
1 tsp oil or ghee
1 tsp oil for cooking
Coriander leaves for garnish
Method:
1. Wash and cut the amla into small pieces as shown
2. Chop tomatoes roughly
3. Blend the tomatoes and half the amla into a fine puree
4. Dry roast and grind jeera and black peppercorns and keep aside
5. In a pot, heat the oil, add mustard seeds, hing, green chillies, dry red chillies, curry leaves and saute
6. Add the tomato puree, water, haldi, red chilli pdr, salt, ground masala
7. Once it starts boiling add jaggery, amla pieces, ghee, fresh dhania
8. Let this boil for 2-3 mins and then ENJOY!!!
