HMX Firecracker Sound Test & Comparisons

TLDR- these are good. very satisfying feel and the sound- not too harsh or loud.

INTRO

the hmx firecracker is designed by yowzers and features a pok stem(3.5mm travel), p3 nylon top housing, p6 nylon bottom housing and 22mm 58g spring. firecracker is the first tactile switch from hmx to feature a pok stem and one of their first switches to use the p6 nylon blend for the bottom housing.

SOUND

the p6 bottom has even more fiberglass than p5, so i was really expecting these guys to be super clacky. I mean its hmx so they are still pretty clacky and loud, but its a bit on the deeper side and theyre not super harsh or shrill. very satisfying. seems like ive been really liking switches from hmx with a pok stem, they just tend to have a really balanced sound. even with the p6 bottom here there is very little harshness and they arent overly loud.
there is also just a bit of scratch from the pok stem. but it’s not super obvious while typing.


QUALITY / FEEL

i haven’t tried any of the other heavy tactiles yet from hmx, but had heard they were very good. haven’t tried all the many heavy tactiles in general honestly, but the few i have tried did have some issues so i understand why the hmx tactiles were getting so much hype. the quality is very very good- they do have a bit of leaf noise when you test it next to your ear but while typing it doesn’t come through at all. and leaf noise for heavy tactiles seems to be something that’s just unavoidable, so hmx has done a great job minimizing it.
the lube and tolerances are what you expect from hmx, consistent and tight, zero mushiness or sluggishness.

FINAL THOUGHTS

i haven’t been the biggest fan of heavy tactiles, but recently they are kinda growing on me ngl. still prefer light tactiles but these guys are easily one of the better sounding heavy tactiles ive tried. it’s not your typical super bright and shrill hmx clack too. even with a extra fiberglass heavy bottom they are pretty calm, at least compared to most of their linear options. from what I've heard, the cilantros were a bit too loud and shrill but have a very good feel and the quality was excellent.
if you thought those were too loud, or if you just wanted something different, the firecrackers will for sure be a good pickup. definitely can recommend.
