Those of us who are walking a healing path know that we do not just hold our own trauma.

We hold the trauma of generations of ancestors.

It’s in our DNA and echoes in our bodies.

We may want to release that trauma and stand lightly and powerfully in our own energy today but there may also be a fear, a sense of collective responsibility and feeling like we can’t leave our ancestors behind in their pain.

A sense that we have to hold onto their trauma for them, to ease the burden for them.

If you've ever felt this way, I urge you to look at it differently.

To see that when you release their trauma and give it up to the earth, the earth is able to heal it.

If you’ve ever had a compost in your backyard, you know that you throw old food out and it breaks down, going through a process of decomposing.

The earth knows what to do.

The insects know what to do.

And the earth breaks that old food down, and if you leave it be, eventually your compost will start growing. All the seeds of old squash and zucchini and sunflowers will sprout up and turn into new life.

In such a way, you can give your ancestors’ trauma back to the earth, trusting that the earth knows what to do.

Trusting that new growth will sprout up over time.

When you let go of all that trauma and choose to stand powerfully, lightly, in your own energy, choosing to live with love and laughter each day, you choose a new story for each generation to come.

You choose to pass on joy and laughter and love, making each generation to come even stronger.
