What is an Ummah — really?
Is it a population?
A political bloc?
A shared ethnicity?
The Qur’an defines it differently.
Allah says:
“Indeed this Ummah of yours is one Ummah, and I am your Lord, so worship Me.” (21:92)
Unity begins with Lordship.
Worship creates cohesion.
Mission defines identity.
The Ummah is not merely a crowd — it is a people unified by Tawheed, bound by responsibility, and raised to bear witness over humanity (2:143, 3:110).
So why does the Ummah feel weak today?
The Prophet ﷺ foretold it:
“You will be many, but you will be like foam on the sea… and wahn will be placed in your hearts.”
They asked: “What is wahn?”
He said: “Love of the dunya and hatred of death.” (Abu Dawud)
This is not demographic weakness.
It is spiritual misalignment.
In this khutbah, we explore:
• The linguistic and Qur’anic meaning of Ummah
• The Prophetic diagnosis of weakness
• What “love of dunya” looks like in our time
• Why Ramadan is the removal of wahn
• How rebuilding the Ummah begins with rebuilding the self
Gaza and global injustice were addressed not merely as political crises, but as moral mirrors — revealing both external aggression and internal fragility.
The Ummah was not built by numbers.
It was built by conviction.
Ramadan is not nostalgia.
It is recalibration.
Revelation builds people.
People build the Ummah.
