Let's make a Pizza Style Calzone for a kid friendly supper!

This is a fun dish to whip up with your kids, spouse or friends. It’s simple, VERY tasty and can be changed into loads of different flavors.
The filling can be tweaked and changed to whatever you feel like and what you have on hand. You can make them ahead and freeze before baking. Then you have ready made calzones to just thaw & pop in the oven.
Gluten and/or dairy free is simple based on a swap of your ingredients. I served this at the restaurant for several years as GF & DF. Give it a shot & let your imagination run on all the possibilities!
Calzone – Pizza Style
Serves 6
Ingredients
• 2 pie crusts
• 1 lb ground pork + 1 T each Spicy Sausage & Italian Sausage blend
• ¼ c Trilogy (see my video on Trilogy)
• 2 oz ham, chopped
• ½ c mushrooms, chopped
• 1 T minced garlic
• 1 c pizza sauce
• ¼ c roasted red peppers or 4 sundried tomatoes; sliced thin
• 2 oz Fresh spinach
• 1 c shredded cheese
Directions
Preheat oven to 400.
Mix pork & sausage seasonings. Let sit overnight if possible.
Remove pie shells from the pan while frozen. Lay upside down on parchment paper liners to thaw & flatten.
Brown pork & trilogy. Mix ham, mushrooms, garlic, sauce & peppers/tomatoes into pork.
Sprinkle ¼ of the cheese on half of a flattened crust. Spread a layer of spinach leaves over cheese.
Spread ½ the filling over the spinach. Spread as evenly as possible & within ½” of the edge.
Top with a layer of spinach & a ¼ of the cheese.
Flip half of crust over cheese. Lightly mash the edges with a fork.
Bake for 20 minutes.
PREP AHEAD STEPS:
Thaw pork, mix with seasonings. Label – Calzone 1
Mix ham, mushrooms, garlic, pizza sauce & tomatoes in glass jar. Label – Calzone 2
Shred cheese. Label Calzone 3
