Sumatra's best-kept secret

Описание: Weh Island, which Indonesians refer to as Sabang for its primary village, is a nine-mile ferry journey into the Andaman Sea off the northern tip of Sumatra. As you quickly realize, this sparsely-populated--and volcanically active--tropical paradise is a world apart.

It's an oasis of tranquility with few cars and where to get around, most visitors do as I’ve done and hire a tuk-tuk driver.

The island is an Indian Ocean delight, a volcanic outcrop that spews sulfur from mud pots and other seismic features that one can observe up close. Heavily forested, much of it along with four surrounding islets is a protected preservation zone, including coral reefs that draw divers from around the world.

Not least of all Weh Island’s magnificent white sand beaches are unforgettable pristine escapes thus far out of the cross hairs of international tourism.
