當 EMI(English as a Medium of Instruction)課堂面臨語言與內容的雙重挑戰,學生往往難以投入學習。中山大學謝東佑教授分享其教學實踐,提出三項策略以提升學生參與與學習成效:
1️⃣ 運用互動科技工具(如 Kahoot、Zuvio)激發學習動機
2️⃣ 精緻化教材設計,降低認知負荷、強化理解力
3️⃣ 建立同儕鷹架支持系統(MAPS 教學法),促進協作與補足學習落差
研究透過「前後測問卷、學習態度分析與實際成績」三重驗證,證實上述策略能有效提升學生的自我效能與學習成果。謝教授強調,EMI 教學的核心不在語言流暢度,而在於設計出「能被理解」的學習歷程,讓學生在全英語環境中也能安心學習、主動參與。
In EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) classrooms, students often struggle to engage due to the dual challenges of language and content. Professor Tong-Yu Hsieh from National Sun Yat-sen University shares his teaching practices and proposes three key strategies to enhance student participation and learning outcomes:
1️⃣ Interactive technology tools (e.g., Kahoot, Zuvio) to boost motivation and engagement
2️⃣ Refined instructional materials to reduce cognitive load and improve comprehension
3️⃣ Peer scaffolding support through the MAPS teaching method, helping bridge learning gaps and foster collaboration
The effectiveness of these strategies was validated through a three-dimensional approach: pre- and post-course surveys, analysis of learning attitudes, and actual academic performance. The results show significant improvements in students’ self-efficacy and learning outcomes.
Prof. Hsieh emphasizes that the success of EMI teaching lies not in the fluency of English delivery, but in designing a learning process that is accessible and understandable to students. With thoughtful planning and support, EMI classrooms can become inclusive spaces where students feel confident to participate and succeed.
