A tour of an abandoned motocross track located at the back of St Ives Showground, St Ives, a suburb on the Sydney North Shore.
Previously the home of the Ku-ring-gai Mini Wheels junior motocross club from the mid 1970s until the council ended their lease in 2015 due to environmental concerns, likely as the site borders the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.
My understanding is that the property is still council owned and part of the St Ives Showground, so track access to the public by foot is still available and legal. There is nothing to indicate otherwise. But as always, make your own decisions before deciding whether to explore the abandoned motocross track. The area feels very "snakey", so take that into consideration too, as car tyres and long grass in the hot sun make the perfect resting place for snakes.
There are a number of abandoned motocross tracks on this site, which catered for junior riders. Thousands of car tyres still remain and the top main track is in relatively good condition.
An extremely interesting site, as it is so close to suburbia with thousands traveling along Mona Vale Road every day who have no idea that this place exists ...not that a lot would be keen to explore it anyway!
