Villeray: Incendie mortel 5 alarmes / Elderly woman dies in fire 12-19-2017

At 2h am this morning tragedy struck after an apartment fire killed one person in Villeray, a district of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The blaze threw a dozen people to the street and a commercial property was also damaged during the incident. The fire took place at the corner of Guizmot and St-Laurent in a three story building, commercial on the ground and residential up. Dense smoke could be seen pouring out of windows and balcony doors as firemen rushed to put out the blaze burning inside the structure. A second alarm was quickly struck, eventually to bring the incident up at a 5 alarm fire. Dozens of firetrucks gathered at the scene and parked on Sherbrooke St causing the complete closure of the busy boulevard. According to SPVM spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant, further into fire fighting operations, crews found the unconscious body of a victim inside the building. They took her out where paramedics from Urgences Sante assessed and declared her deceased at the scene. Because the fire involves the death of someone, the SPVM's fire investigation unit is automatically called in and will investigate the circumstances of the tragic events.

À 2h ce matin un incendie dans un édifice à appartement de la rue Guizot au coin St-Laurent a fait un mort et a jeté plusieurs personnes à la rue. Le feu qui s'est propagé du premier étage commercial jusqu'aux 2e et 3e étages résidentiels a éventuellement grimpé à une 5e alarme. Une personne qui manquait à l'appel a été retrouvée plus tard à l'intérieur des décombres. La victime a été transportée à l'extérieur et a été déclarée morte sur scène. Plusieurs pompiers ont combattu le brasier à partir de l'intérieur et du toit de l'édifice. Le boulevard St-Laurent est complètement fermé à la circulation pour faire place aux nombreuses équipes de secours.
