Kannapuram Pookkotti Tharavadu Sree Vayanattu Kulavan temple is located at Kannapuram in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Vayanattu Kulavan and other associated deities. The annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival is held for two days in Malayalam Thula Masam – Thulam 11 to Thulam 12 (October 27 to October 28).
Kandanar Kelan Theyyam is a vibrant ritual art form from the Malabar region of Kerala, celebrating the legend of Kelan, a hunter who was brought back to life from a forest fire by the demi-god Vayanattu Kulavan. The performance is distinguished by its striking costumes, dramatic makeup, rhythmic movements, and powerful fire rituals, all of which symbolize bravery, endurance, and deep devotion. During the ritual, the performer embodying Kandanar Kelan is regarded not only as a fierce warrior but also as a revered tribal deity, making the experience both spiritually profound and culturally significant.
