Описание: 28 July 2024, driving from Daye to Wuhan on the Wuyang Expressway. Blue skies, white clouds—lake merging with sky, sky merging with lake, lotus blossoms scenting the air. The weather and scenery were too beautiful to pass by, so my friend and I pulled over for a walk.

Beside the expressway, a freshly bulldozed dirt road stretched flat. Beyond it: endless lotus ponds and farmland ridges, lotus flowers in full bloom.

Bao‘an Lake, a water body within Daye City, Huangshi.

Part of the Liangzi Lake water system, it forms a lake wetland cluster with Ezhou’s Liangzi Lake, Daye‘s Bao’an Lake, and Sanshan Lake. In 2020, the Tongsha Bay and Luhaiwei reclamation‑to‑lake projects were completed, totaling 2,210 mu, benefiting 6,895 people—increasing flood storage capacity and improving the water ecosystem. The lotus ponds we saw likely emerged from this restoration.

We played for a while—then heard a heartbreaking story behind the beauty.

An elderly woman approached and chatted with us. Her farmland had been expropriated; she received compensation—several hundred thousand yuan. Divided among her sons, little remained for her. Before the road was built, even if her earnings were modest, she had fish ponds and fields to sustain herself. Now, nothing.

Wuyang Expressway (Wuhan‑Yangxin) is a key Hubei provincial project.

Spanning about 126 km, its land acquisition and demolition peaked around 2020. In the Huandiqiao section, workers completed 438 mu of land acquisition, 14 house demolitions, and 338 grave relocations in just two weeks—100% completion. In Baisha Town, Yangxin County, the construction of the Yangxin North Interchange connector expropriated the village pond of Shamao Village‘s Yazhi Group. There, villagers didn’t just “divide the money”—they used compensation as principal for rural revitalization, renovating the pond and building farm roads, transforming the village.

But this elderly woman‘s story was different.

Several hundred thousand yuan in compensation, divided among sons—little left for her. Scholars note that in land compensation distribution, intra‑family generational equity is often overlooked—compensation deposited into the household head’s account may not benefit every member, especially elderly women, lacking safeguards.

She stood on the lotus‑blooming ridge, gazing at the new roads, newly planted lotuses—her eyes held no scenery, only bewilderment. We don‘t know how her sons treated her afterward, or how she now lives. Only that she once had fish ponds and fields to sustain herself. Now, nothing.

A line comes to mind: “There is no peaceful life without someone carrying the burden for you.”

The expressway is built. The scenery is beautiful. The lotuses bloom. Tourists arrive. But for this elderly woman, behind that “peaceful life” lies her lost livelihood, her divided compensation, her uncertain old age.

2024年7月28日，从大冶去武汉，走武阳高速。蓝天白云，湖水连天天连水，荷花飘香。看天气和风景太好，我和同学下车走走。高速路边上是刚刚推土机推完的一条平整的黄土路，再往前面走就是连片的荷塘和田垄，荷花成片盛开。

保安湖，黄石大冶市境内的一片水域。

它是梁子湖水系的一部分，与鄂州梁子湖、大冶保安湖、三山湖等共同构成湖泊湿地群。2020年，保安湖完成了桐沙湾和芦海圩垸退垸还湖项目，总面积2210亩，受益人口6895人，有效增加了湖泊调洪湖容，改善了水生态环境。我们看到的这片荷花盛开的荷塘，很可能就是退垸还湖后形成的新景致。

我们玩了一会儿，没想到听到了一个美景背后的伤心事。

一个老太太走过来，和我们聊了几句。她的田地被征用了，赔了几十万。几个儿子一分，她本人没多少了。原先没有修路，她哪怕赚的不多，但有些鱼塘和田地能谋生。现在，什么都没了。

武阳高速，武汉至阳新高速公路，是湖北省重点工程。

路线全长约126公里，2020年前后进入征地拆迁高峰期。在还地桥段，工作人员仅用两周时间，就完成了438亩征地、14栋房屋拆迁、338棺迁坟的任务，实现三个百分之百。在阳新县白沙镇，武阳高速阳新北互通连接线的建设征用了石茂村押纸组的门口塘。那里的村民没有“一分了事”，而是把补偿款用作乡村振兴的本金，翻新了门口塘，修通了机耕路，村容村貌焕然一新。

但眼前这位老太太的故事，是另一种。

几十万补偿款，几个儿子一分，到她手里没剩多少。有学者指出，在征地补偿分配中，家庭内部的代际公平常常被忽视——补偿款打入户主账户后，能否惠及每一位家庭成员，尤其是年长的女性，往往缺乏保障。

她站在荷花盛开的田埂上，看着那些新修的路，新栽的荷，眼神里没有风景，只有迷茫。我们不知道她的儿子们后来怎么对待她，也不知道她如今靠什么生活。只知道原先有些鱼塘和田地，能谋生。现在，什么都没了。

想起来一句话：哪有什么岁月静好，只是有人替你负重前行。

高速路修好了，风景变美了，荷花开了，游客来了。但对于这位老太太来说，那些“岁月静好”的风景背后，是她失去的谋生之地，是她被分走的补偿款，是她晚年的不安。
