Calm your nervous system and anxiety with this Yin Yoga practice, designed to deeeply stretch and relax specific target areas of the body - where tension and emotions are stored and even unprocessed.
Experience a deep release in your body and transformational calmness in your mind.
We cannot relax our mind if our body is full of tension - this will affect how we function in our everyday life, including how well we sleep. Use this practice to come back to yourself - Your body will love it.
Targeting main areas of the body including the psoas muscle - which is one of the strongest muscles in your body - this muscle attaches your upper body to your lower body; connecting your spine to your legs - and is involved in almost every action and movement we make.
This muscle plays such a significant role in our physical and emotional health.
The psoas affects our posture and is associated with stiffness in the hips and spine, and affects how we walk. And because our diaphragm is linked to this muscle, it influences how we breathe.
On a more subtle, emotional level, the psoas responds to stress.
Deep seated tension and trauma can be stored in this muscle and area - it is known as the Sacred muscle or muscle of the soul; the muscle of emotion, fear and transformation - In Yoga this is the region of the Sacral Chakra Svadhisthana.
Certain life style choice we make, including isolating muscles during intense workouts, particular sports where the front body muscles are worked more dominantly than the back body muscles, or being sedentary, can cause, among other imbalances, the hip flexors; particularly the psoas muscle to develop and adapt to a permanent contracted state, leading to problems in the back, spine and hips.
Developing your awareness of when the psoas releases and tightens is accessible through your Yoga practice, where a deeper relationship with your Self is experienced, on all levels. Also learning how to relax and improving yor posture.
In Yin Yoga, not only will we gift our self the opportunity to return to the parasympathetic state of relaxation; rest and digest because of its meditative quality, calming the mind, we will also be able to release tightness and tension in the body, naturally allowing for healing to happen - This is the transformation Yoga speaks of.
Whenever we sense danger, and move into fight/flight, the sympathetic state of our nervous system, the psoas is the first muscle to respond, and contracts in reaction, then as we feel safe again, we return to the state of relaxation and rest, if we release the tension.
During your Yoga class, you may experience the muscles release, expressed as shaking or vibrating deep in the pelvis, for example, literally shaking off the stress from where it has been stored.
Strong emotions may arise, try to accept this as a natural part of the process of healing - try to feel a sense of surrender in your practice. Encourage deep breathing in the poses.
The aftermath may feel uncomfortable, but you may also feel energised, euphoric and deeply peaceful.
Yoga teaches us to be better at life, more equipped to deal with the changing tides, by feeling more anchored and connected to our body, we can move through lofe with love and an open heart.
Allow your self to awaken to the magical transformation, that is Yoga.
