In gym jargon, the Deltoids are often referred to simply as “shoulders”, which includes the three Deltoid “heads. Each of these heads has a separate function (direction of movement), although there can be some overlap. For example, a movement might involve the frontal part (Anterior Deltoid) and the side part (Lateral Deltoid). Another movement might involve the rear part (Posterior Deltoid) and the Lateral Deltoid.
In this chapter, we’ll examine the origin and insertion of these three muscles, as well as the shoulder joint. We’ll determine the “ideal” anatomical movement of each of these three muscles. Then, we’ll see whether the exercises that are usually performed for these muscles is “ideal” - or whether there are other, better exercises.
