🐾 RILEY'S STORY | The Most Heartbreaking & Inspiring Dog Rescue From Grand Canyon
When Sarah Chen fell 15 feet onto a narrow canyon ledge on the South Kaibab Trail,
her 3-year-old Australian Shepherd Riley did the unthinkable — she spent 32 hours
trying to find help for her injured owner, walking on bleeding paws through
scorching heat and freezing nights.
17 people ignored her signals. The 18th — a 23-year veteran SAR volunteer —
understood exactly what she was trying to say.
This is the true story of Riley, the dog who never stopped believing someone
would listen.

🐕 ABOUT RILEY
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Riley is a 3-year-old blue-grey Australian Shepherd who walked over 15 miles
on the South Kaibab Trail — on torn, bleeding paws — attempting to communicate
her owner's location to passing hikers. Over 32 hours in extreme heat and
freezing temperatures, she approached 17 different trail users. Only one person,
Marcus Webb, a 23-year SAR volunteer, understood what she was trying to say.
In 2025, Riley was awarded the Grand Canyon Hero Dog Award for her extraordinary
act of loyalty and intelligence.
