He raised his kingdom of Pontus from an irrelevant backwater to a power that dominated the entire Black Sea. Like many ambitious men, he flew too close to the sun and paid the ultimate price. But Mithridates was unique in his dedication and his willingness to sacrifice everything in pursuit of a hopeless fight.
