What is Infertility? Inability or failure to conceive within one or more years even after unprotected regular sexual cohabitation is called infertility.
There are two types of Infertility: Primary infertility- not become pregnant after at least 1 year; Secondary infertility- had previous pregnancy but unable to conceive subsequently. Many couples all over the world are infertile. In India, often the female is blamed. But often, the problem lies in the male partner

Various reasons for infertility: Diseases, Congenital, Psychological , chemicals, Physical or Immunological
Reasons for male infertility: Cryptorchidism, Swollen veins (varicocoele), Tight clothing in men, Autoimmune response , Underdeveloped testes, Alcoholism, Thyroid dysfunction, Illness/Infections etc
Reasons for female infertility: Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) , Uterine fibroids, Endometriosis, Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), Low body fat or anorexia in women, Underdeveloped ovaries , Anovulation etc.

All women are born with ovaries, but some do not have functional uterus. This congenital malformation characterized by a failure of the Mullerian duct to develop, resulting in a missing uterus .This condition is called Mayer-Rokitansky syndrome

Specialised health care units (infertility clinics) could help in diagnosis and corrective treatment of some of these disorders and enable these couples to have children.
However, where such corrections are not possible, the couples could be assisted to have children through certain special techniques commonly known as assisted reproductive technologies (ART).
