Ultrasound scanning: A prenatal ultrasound test uses high-frequency sound waves, inaudible to the human ear, that are transmitted through the abdomen via a device called a transducer
The echoes are recorded and transformed into video or photographic images of the baby

Ultrasounds may be done at various times throughout pregnancy for many reasons
To find out the due date
number of fetuses
diagnose an ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage
look at the uterus and other pelvic anatomy
find fetal problems
check the amount of amniotic fluid
find out the position of a fetus
check the placenta, etc.

Amniocentesis is a procedure in which a small sample of the amniotic fluid that surrounds the foetus is taken to diagnose chromosomal abnormalities
Generally performed in a pregnant woman between the 15th and 20th weeks of pregnancy

Commonly used to check the baby’s chromosomes (Karyotyping)
To diagnose chromosome problems
To detect open neural tube defects (ONTDs) such as (spina bifida or open spine)
To examine diseases during pregnancy such as infections or genetic disorders (if have a family history)
To examine if the lungs of the baby are ready to breathe, etc

CVS is a prenatal test in which a small sample of cells (called chorionic villi) are taken from the placenta for testing
Also called as “Chorionic Villus Biopsy”
CVS is usually done at 10–12 weeks of gestation, earlier than amniocentesis

Uses of CVS:
to detect birth defects,
genetic diseases such as cystic fibrosis
chromosomal abnormalities such as down syndrome
Rich source of foetal stem cells

Foetoscope is a device used to obtain information about a fetus within the uterus
