Dispatch sent us north out of Grand Canyon Village with a 19,800 lb Bobcat D30 chained down and Colorado in the sights.
Clear skies. Long desert lanes. That Arizona red rock stretching forever in the mirrors.
This first leg takes us from the canyon rim through wide open Navajo Nation country, steady throttle and steady climb as we aim toward Fort Collins.
But every run has its moments.
Just north of Kayenta on US-191, we make an unscheduled desert pull-off — not for fuel, not for freight…
For Denver.
Not the city.
The Jack Russell co-pilot. 🐾
Quick roadside break under big sky, engine idling, desert wind rolling across the hood. Old-school trucking moment. No truck stop glow, just open country and a 15-pound supervisor handling business.
