Then hidden Penang sweets at Moh Teng Pheow, followed by lunch at the legendary Hameediyah, serving since 1907. By the time the call to prayer echoed through the streets, we realised this city wasn’t going to fit neatly into any expectations.

Georgetown is rhythm. Armenia Street murals. Flying possums on a motorbike. Hin Market beers with new expat friends. A laundromat afternoon that felt oddly grounding. Sunrise at Chew Jetty. The Hainan Thean Hou Temple and the story it carries. Our first durian. Kapitan’s rich curries. Chulia Street coming alive at night.

And then, contrast.

The calm courtyard of The Edison. Old Penang done properly. A bed test. A slow breakfast. Green Mansion heritage. Laksa that didn’t quite land. Massive shared plates at a local Muslim restaurant. Layers upon layers.
