Hi, getting together with the entire family is always fun and exciting, but planning the meals can be very stressful. It's wise to divvy up meals and responsibilities to make it easy for you. I'm sharing this popiah recipe that our family often use during Chinese Lunar New Year. Popiah has many ingredients , and you can even just add your favourite ingredients ! So it's super customisable !
INGREDIENTS
Reminder: The recipe can be scaled according to the number of servings. Seasoning can be added to taste.
POPIAH FILLING (薄饼馅): For 10 persons
500 g cabbage, washed and shredded ( 500g 包菜)
400 g jicama / sengkuang , skinned and shredded (500克沙葛,去皮,切丝)
6 pcs firm beancurd (Taukwa) , diced (6块豆腐干,切丁炸香)
2 carrots, skinned and shredded (2 条 红萝卜)
3-4 stalks leek ,washed and sliced ( 4 棵蒜菜)
4 fish cakes , washed and sliced ( 4 大片鱼饼)
8 tbsp fresh shrimp/prawn meat, chopped,(8汤匙虾,剁碎)
6-7 tbsp chopped garlic (6汤匙蒜茸)
cooking oil (食油)
SEASONING(调味料):
1 tsp salt (盐)
1 tsp mushroom powder/ sugar / (松茸粉 /糖 )
1 tbsp light soy sauce (生抽)
1 tbsp oyster sauce (蚝油)
1/2 tsp ground pepper (胡椒料)
POPIAH SKIN / WRAPPER SKIN(皮料):
You may get fresh popiah skin from the wet market or frozen popiah skin from the groceries.
