Yellowstone Lake at Sedge Bay - Underwater Shots

Описание: Sedge bay is one of 2 large half-moon bays on the north shore of Yellowstone Lake. Both of these bays - Mary bay being the other - are actually old explosion craters on the edge of the lake. Same process as how West Thumb formed. Strangely, Mary bay is a silty, muddy beach, whereas Sedge Bay is gravel. As a bonus, you can drive onto the beach cause the parking lot is behind a gravel berm separating the lakeshore from the roadway. Pretty cool. That’s the main reason why we went to Sedge Bay - accessibility.

After adventuring around Canyon for the day, I wanted to being them out to the lake so they could enjoy the vastness of it and have a lazy afternoon. That was a great success, as Dad whipped out the cook set and we had burgers and brews on the beach. I of course got in the water for a good while. Dad got in for a few moments, but everyone else just got their toes wet. The waves were choppy and blowing into the beach, so I chucked the GoPro in on its floatie to see what kind of footage it would get. It’s entertaining. The footage is wobbly because of course it’s getting thrown around in the waves. I also throw it out into the water a few times cause it kept getting blown in on the beach. You can see the rippling in the sand underwater,and also how clear the water is, even while being churned up by the approaching thunderstorms.

The water really was cold though, so I didn’t spend too much time in it.
