At just 4 years old, Austin was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL)—a journey no child or family ever expects to face. What started as recurring illnesses and persistent infections led to a life-changing diagnosis. Thanks to the top-ranked Leukemia and Lymphoma Program at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Austin began acute lymphoblastic leukemia treatment immediately, undergoing chemotherapy, physical therapy and the challenges of steroid-induced neuropathy.
💙 What is B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-ALL)?
• B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) happens when bone marrow produces too many abnormal B-lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell that helps the body fight infection.
• Once fatal, now treatable with chemotherapy, radiation therapy, stem cell transplant and targeted therapies.
• Requires chemotherapy and long-term care for remission.
Despite the challenges, Austin refused to give up. From learning to walk again to returning to school and playing baseball, his journey is an inspiration. His story offers hope to families with a child navigating leukemia.
