Thriving Thanks to Childhood Cancer Research: Paul’s Inspiring Story

Описание: Thanks to innovative research from our Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, 11-year-old Paul remains cancer-free.

After injuring his leg, his parents brought him to Children's for X-rays, where multiple scans revealed a mass. A biopsy later confirmed that he had metastatic Ewing’s Sarcoma in his right femur, lungs, spine and left leg.

Paul began an aggressive treatment with 14 rounds of chemotherapy, a limb salvage surgery to remove his femur and replace it with an internal prosthetic, as well as 22 rounds of radiation. Because Ewing’s Sarcoma has a high chance of recurrence, he was enrolled in our Peach Bowl, Inc. trial, led by his oncologist, Dr. Kathryn Sutton, that consisted of one year of oral medication to keep the tumors away. After a year of the maintenance drug trial, Paul was confirmed to have no evidence of disease.

Five years post diagnosis, 11-year-old Paul is thriving and has found his stride playing sports.
