Memphis Zoo: The Memphis Pride (World Lion Day 2025)

Описание: It's that time of year again! World Lion Day, one of my favorite days of the year! So I had to put this together for your enjoyment as we celebrate the Kings and Queens of Africa!

One thing I love about ‪@MemphisZoo‬ is that you can start your day with the lions and end your day with the lions. They're among the first animals you see on arrival and the last you see as you leave.

In Ancient Egypt, lions were among the most revered of all animals and were often associated with the gods and pharaohs. Sekmet, the goddess of war, is often depicted with the head of a lioness. The Sphinx is depicted as having the head of a pharaoh and the body of a lion.

Thabo ("Happiness" in Tswana) is easily recognized by his dark mane and magnificent profile. He lives with two lioness sisters named Akeelah ("Wise" in Swahili) and Jamela ("Beautiful" in Arabic). Akeelah has darker fur while Jamela has lighter fur.

By visiting your local AZA zoo like Memphis, you can help African Lions in the wild. Visiting the zoo helps groups like ‪@EwasoLions‬ and The Lion Guardians (   / @lionguardians  ) When you help protect lions, you protect everyone, human and animals alike. And so, you are helping protect the Circle of Life.
