Is your memory normal? What's a 'normal ' short-term memory? How can it be improved? Am I Right brain or Left brain? These are all great questions! And they are questions that a lot of baby boomers start asking once they reach the age of 50+ because that is when normal memory changes start occurring. (actually, some studies say it may even be as early as 45!)

So what is normal? Most people with a healthy brain can retain around 7 items of information in their short-term memory (plus or minus two ... so that gives a range from 5 to 9 items). And that is the result whether you are left brain or right brain.

How many words can you remember at a time? Use this exercise to find out your current level of verbal and short-term memory skill. Remember, it is brain training, not a test, so you can take as long as you need to and repeat the exercise as many times as you like.
