The students and staff of Doby's Bridge Elementary united to uplift less fortunate community members during their Day of Service. In Emily Asbell's first-grade classroom, they crafted service bags for the Salvation Army to distribute to homeless individuals. Ms. Asbell proudly embraced the chance to apply social-emotional learning lessons to real-world situations, stating, "It's been an amazing day, an amazing opportunity for our students to lead, grow, and make a positive impact in our community."
Upstairs in Laine Collins' third-grade class, it is all about sharing the warmth, one knot at a time. They are combing blankets to provide durable and extra warm support for those in need. Ms. Collins remarked, "We have different lessons about kindness, empathy, giving back, and being respectful to other people. And so, this is just a way for them to see their actions being put into motion. Like they can see and know that, hey, I made this thing, and it's going to someone who needs it, and they're going to get to use it. And like, my hands have been on it, and like my energy went into it, my time went into it. And I hope that they just kind of carry that with them and understand and know that they can make a difference even at eight, nine years old, you know, like they're they're not limited, just because of how old they are."
Way to go, Dragons!!
