In honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September, Flint Hill Elementary hosted a special celebration. This event recognized cancer survivors, fifth-grade teacher Tracie Bathrick, and third-grade student Alfie. Tracie utilized this opportunity to educate her students on developing empathy for those facing similar challenges. “I kind of use that personal story to let them know that I was sad, as if people had made me sad. And you don’t want to do that to somebody else. So, I use that as a way to teach them kindness, how to be kind to others, and why it’s important,” she explained.
Alfie's father, John, expressed his gratitude and pride for Flint Hill Elementary. “This experience has been incredible for me personally. It gives me great comfort to know that he is in the right place. There’s no other school in the world I would want him to be at. Even before this, everything was going so well, and he was so excited about school. But now, seeing the effort they made to celebrate him, raise awareness, and support him means the world to us. It’s a day we will never forget. We will always remember this school.”
