I talk without hyperbole when I say that this is one of the most beautiful houses I have visited in the UK. The setting in the hills of the north of England is just perfect. It's courtyard and gardens are exceptional. Inside you have an amazing long gallery and the most impressive fireplace I've ever seen. To top it all off it's got enough Victorian engineering to set any Steampunk fans heart a flutter.
The site is located about an hour north of Newcastle on your way to the Scottish border. The house does have accessible routes but there are a fair few stairs. There are plenty of parking spots, two tea rooms and bathrooms. Also several walks around the gardens, some of which are good for those with mobility issues, others less so.
