Imitation of Life by R.E.M. a song which I loved as soon as I heard it and probably one that turned them into one of my favourite bands due to my age.
I grew up listening to REM. My dad didnt really like what you'd call rock music and he certainly didnt like indie but he did love REM. My mum however had a great taste in guitar based music so I got these from both sides.
The reason Imitation of Life stood out to me was because it was the first new REM single I remember as being new and the first one I was excited about, and also the first one I used my own money to buy. The video was on MTV non stop and I'd get home from school wanting to hear more. I bought the CD single, and Reveal when it was released and all of a sudden they became a band of my own, not just my parents. Reveal isnt my favourite album of theirs by any means but I do love it and this is one of their best singles. I'd give anything to see them live again. I know they say it will never happen but lets see.
