On February 3, 2003, famed music producer Phil Spector was charged with the murder of actress Lana Clarkson. The first trial in 2007 ended with a hung jury but in the second trial in 2008, the jury convicted Spector of murder in the second degree. His three appeals failed and he died in prison in 2021.

The trial of Spector showcased the issues of forensic evidence - specifically blood spatter evidence - and the expert pathologists Vincent DiMaio and Werner Spitz.

Also showcased in this trial is the problem of expert testimony. Can experts be bought and how can two experts give totally opposing views if forensic evidence is supposed to be "an impeachable witness?"

I review the testimony of the experts, give my own determination on the blood spatter pattern and my verdict in the case. And, I discuss the whole issue of experts being used in a adversarial court system.
