In June of 2003, Jodi Jones, age 14 was brutally murdered on a walk to meet her boyfriend, Luke Mitchell in the small town of Dalkeith, Scotland. Mitchell became the Number One suspect in a short period of time and was convicted of her murder in 2005 at the age of 16.

Luke Mitchell has appealed his murder conviction numerous times and has no success in spite of the defense team claiming he was convicted without physical evidence, poor witness claims, and mostly because the prosecution claimed he was obsessed with Marilyn Manson and the murder of the Black Dahlia.

In 2021, Channel 5 aired "Murder in a Small Town" which told Mitchell's side of the story, raised the possibility of five other suspects, and the show was watched by 1.5 million people, many of them clamoring for his appeal to be granted because they believe he is innocent.

Is he? Was he convicted unfairly? Was the civilian jury wrong? Is this public jury right? What are the issues that arise from having a case essentially tried outside of the courtroom?

If you want to watch a documentary before the show on Luke Mitchell and the murder of Jodi Jones, there are two. The better one is the BBC documentary and the other one, Murder in a Small Town is pretty awful in my opinion. I have put links here to both (although I only found Part One of Murder in a Small Town). If you are in the UK or have a VPN, you can watch both parts on Channel 5.
