Note that this service no longer operates with Caterham only being served by the half hourly London Bridge via Norwood Junction fast service.

At the time of filming services on this route operated every half hour alongside the half hourly fast London Bridge to Caterham service providing 4 trains an hour on the Caterham branch. Since this service no longer operated the Caterham service now only operates as the fast service with passengers for stations via Tulse Hill needing to change trains. The fast service joins with a portion to and from Tattenham Corner at Purley. Services still operate on this route but only between East Croydon and London Bridge. Many other Southern, Thameslink and London Overground routes share parts of this route with important interchange stations being East Croydon, Tulse Hill and Peckham Rye, at London Bridge there is interchange to the Jubilee and Northern London Underground lines and at East Croydon there is interchange with London Trams (previously Tramlink).

Services on this route and all Southern metro services are operated by class 377 Electrostar since May 2022 when the 4 carriage class 455 units left Southern. The class 377 on the Caterham route are usually the newer 5 carriage versions however many Southern services are formed of the 4 carriage versions with completely different interiors. Southern services around London are formed of 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12 carriages using different combinations of Electrostar units.

This route is fully electrified throughout using 3rd rail DC electrification. This route is double track for a lot of this journey but with 4 tack sections between Purley and Streatham Common, at Tulse Hill and Peckham Rye and many tracks are provided on the approach to London Bridge.
