Homemade Oven Pan Pizza
(Using Marinara Sauce)
Oven Temperature
Preheat oven to 450°F
Rack in lower-middle position
Ingredients
Pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)
⅓–½ cup marinara sauce
1½–2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Toppings of choice (pepperoni, sausage, veggies, etc.)
Olive oil
Optional Sauce Boost
1 tbsp tomato paste (thickens sauce)
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp Italian seasoning or oregano
Pinch red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Pan
Use a metal pan or cast iron skillet
Coat generously with 2 tbsp olive oil
2. Shape the Dough
Press dough into the pan, pushing from center outward
Let rest 10 minutes, then press again if it shrinks
Optional: Brush edges with olive oil + garlic powder
3. Sauce & Cheese (Prevents Soggy Pizza)
Mix marinara with optional sauce boost if using
Sprinkle ½ cup mozzarella directly on the dough
Spread ⅓–½ cup marinara thinly over cheese
Add remaining cheese and toppings
Tip: Pre-cook sausage, bacon, or mushrooms to reduce moisture.
4. Bake
Bake 15–20 minutes
Rotate pan halfway if needed
Optional: Broil 1–2 minutes at the end for browning
5. Check for Doneness
Crust edges golden and pulling from pan
Bottom browned and crisp
Cheese melted and bubbly
Optional Finishes
Grated parmesan
Red pepper flakes
Drizzle of olive oil
Fresh basil (after baking)
Yield: 1 thick, crispy pan pizza
Notes: Use less sauce than you think — marinara is thinner than pizza sauce.
🍕 Pizza Dough (Makes 1 large or 2 medium pizzas)
Ingredients
2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
1 ½ cups warm water (110°F / warm, not hot)
3 ½–4 cups all-purpose flour
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
Instructions
In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Add olive oil, salt, and 3 ½ cups flour. Mix until dough forms.
Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes, adding flour as needed, until smooth and elastic.
Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1½ hours until doubled in size.
