Carefully studying the flow of the jin and shari, I carve them to the very edge, drawing out their movement and tension to the fullest.
Rather than simply making them thinner, I pay close attention to their connection with the trunk, the position of the live vein, and the overall balance of the tree—shaping lines that feel as if nature itself carved them over many years.
With each cut, new expressions of the wood begin to appear.
Even the slightest change in thickness or angle can dramatically transform the tree’s presence and impact.
This bold carving requires precision—pushing to the limit while preserving the vital lines and natural strength of the tree.
Balancing intensity with authenticity is the true essence of Shimpaku bonsai.
